Integrity has always been important to me, but that isn’t so unusual. Integrity is important to almost everyone I know.

But why?

First, let’s make sure we are speaking the same language. To me, integrity means being both whole (as in complete) and being virtuous and adhering to moral principles.

For me, those moral principles include things like honesty and authenticity. Kindness and compassion are on my list, too.

You get to make up your own list.

And here’s the value of being in integrity:

It empowers me. I see myself as a good person. I feel better about myself and consider myself more worthy of the goodwill and good fortune that comes my way.

And when I feel that someone else is in integrity, I trust them more. I want to help them and do business with them.

Integrity doesn’t happen by accident. Whether integrity is modeled by our parents or not, at some point, we have to choose whether we want it for ourselves.

And it takes a fair amount of self-awareness and courage to embrace.

Sometimes, we have to say “I screwed up”, “it’s my fault”, or “that was my mistake”.

And at some point we have to say “I’m sorry”.  (Well, OK, at a lot of points.)

That’s the price of integrity.

And it’s well worth it.

Keep being Awesome!
