I really don’t like to sing karaoke, and the reason my surprise you.
It has nothing to do with singing – I love to sing!
It has nothing to do with being in front of an audience – I love to sing for audiences large and small.
It’s because I know the value of rehearsal.
When I practice a song, I can really nail it. I get the phrasing down, the dynamics just right, and know exactly when I am going to take a breath, and how big of one to take.
I get to play with the melody a bit, and add my own special touches. I try out a bunch of things behind closed doors before I ever step up on stage.
When I rehearse, the audience loves the show, and more importantly, I can be personally proud of my performance.
Without rehearsal, none of that is possible. I’m just winging it, and at best, my performances are only 70% as good as they could be.
And that’s only if I’ve sung the song when I heard on the radio – a lot.
Here’s the deal: if performance really matters, rehearsal matters.
And that applies whether you are singing a song, making a sales presentation, or pitching to investors.
So practice! Rehearse as if you were singing / presenting / pitching to the most important people in the world.
You’ll do better.
And Keep being Awesome!
